When thinking of a space that encompasses luxury, drama, and elegance, there is a material that helps create it. Calacatta has a bold and dramatic veining of gray, gold, and white that sprawls over the surface. This popular choice has taken over the world when it comes to remodeling. It is a go to for kitchens and bathrooms. There are many variations of this marble stone. We are doing a deep dive into what it is, the different types, and why it is so well-favored.

What is Calacatta?

Calacatta is like any other stone, but what makes it desirable? It originates from Carra, Italy. No two pieces will ever be identical, which is why it is so unique. This stone is cut from a mountain range. Some areas will have a more crisp white background with thick veining, and others will have thin veining with hints of gold. Depending on the location of the quarry, the mountain range can produce many different types of marble. It has the most "clean" look of any other stone. It is frequently imitated throughout quartz. Because of the elegance of this stone, it is considered a luxury stone.

Different Types

If you have been at a store looking for Calacatta, you will see many different forms of it. There are five different options: Calacatta Borghini, Calacatta Gold, Calacatta Extra Marble, Calacatta Michelangelo, and Calacatta Oro Marble For gold, there are more yellow hues, and the veining is subtle. Oro has a natural, Tuscan, and warm look. Borghini has thick gray veining with gold undertones. Michelangelo's work has fine hints of blue and gray veining with a white background. Extra has thicker and more prominent veining throughout the slab than the others.

Why People Choose Calacatta

The majority of people choose this stone for new construction or renovations. The slab is mostly used in kitchens and bathrooms. The reason it is so popular is because of its uniqueness, distinctive appearance, and versatile applications. It is unique because it is top quality and no two slabs will be exactly the same. The appearance is exquisite because of how white the background is and the naturally colored veining. It is easy to determine the finer details throughout the slab. Lastly, Calacatta can be installed in commercial and residential spaces. It can be called a backsplash, countertops, flooring, walls, and so much more. That is what makes this material so versatile.
